DESCRIPTION
Climbing to 1,569 metres above the vineyards of the Rhône Valley, Les Agites is one of the hidden gems of the Vaud Alps. The road rises through dense forests and remote alpine pastures before reaching its most distinctive feature: the narrow Tunnel de la Sarse, carved through the mountain in 1940 to bypass a section threatened by landslides and rockfall. During the Second World War, the route formed part of Switzerland's defensive network protecting access to the Hongrin plateau.
For cyclists, Les Agites offers a demanding ascent from Yvorne, gaining over 1,000 vertical metres in little more than 12 kilometres. Sustained gradients, a dramatic mountain setting, and sweeping views towards the Tour d'Aï and Lac de l'Hongrin make it one of the most rewarding yet least-known climbs in western Switzerland.
